iO Associates are Speaking at the University of Bath!
Posted on November 2022 By Laurie Stewart
This month, iO Associates are delighted to be delivering a talk at the University of Bath!
On the 22nd of November at 11:15am, iO’s Consultant Laurie Stewart will be presenting the topic ‘Why a Career in User Experience?’, joined by two guest speakers Eugenia (Jenia) Sergueeva, Senior UX Researcher at Dyson and Jack Holmes, an independent user experience researcher and designer from Bristol.
The global User Experience (UX) Service market was valued at 1993.4 million in 2021 and is projected to reach US$ 17310 million by 2028, at a CAGR of 36.2% during the forecast period. (https://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/user-experience-ux-service-market-to-register-growth-of-36-see-why)
There are multiple roles within the User Experience space (including UX Designer, UI Designer, User Researcher, UX Architect, UX Writer) and it is certainly a growing market with lots of companies currently building out their teams so a great sector for students to consider, which will be covered during the session.
About the organiser, Laurie:
I used to be a placement officer at the University of Bath working with psychology students to secure them placement years as part of their degrees. Lots of them are not familiar with the concept of User Experience (UX) so when it turned out it was my specialism after joining iO, I thought it would be great to go back and give them more information about the market, what a role in the sector would be like and why the skills they are developing at university make them a good fit for the industry.
We have also included computer science students in the invite as they do modules relating to human interaction with computers so have a different but still very relevant skillset. Any other students will be welcome but direct invites will go to around 300 students, as I mentioned it’s not timetabled so up to them if they attend/could bring friends from other courses.
About our guest speakers:
Eugenia Sergueeva is a Senior UX Researcher with more than ten years of working as a software engineer, product designer and researcher in consulting, start-ups and, most recently, in-house working on the mobile app at Dyson. Eugenia's extensive software engineering experience and knowing the processes inside out complement her MSc in Human-Computer Interaction, allowing her to steer Dyson's mobile app design to deliver the best possible user experience.
Jack Holmes is an independent user experience researcher and designer from Bristol. He's been helping organisations understand their customers and build better apps, websites and services for over 10 years. He's a previous UXPA (User Experience Professionals Association) International board member and has chaired international UX conferences all over the world.
iO Associates, tech and digital recruitment specialists, are really keen to help keep our community positive and engaged. So, we encourage you to share this with any students that are enrolled at the University of Bath and that would benefit from this session.
