Control & Instrumentation Technician

Are you a skilled professional with a strong background in electrical, control, and instrumentation systems? Our client, a well-established manufacturing facility in the Scottish Borders, is looking for an experienced Control & Instrumentation Technician to join their maintenance team.



The Role

This permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a flexible manufacturing environment. You'll be responsible for maintaining and optimising plant operations, ensuring equipment runs efficiently, and supporting overall reliability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Promoting a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Diagnosing and repairing instrumentation and control equipment tailored to manufacturing processes.
  • Planning and performing proactive and reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Developing, testing, and maintaining control systems to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
  • Maintaining compliance with industry standards, including the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
  • Managing asset maintenance and replacement plans to minimise downtime and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Auditing the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for accurate maintenance records.


What You'll Need

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A recognised apprenticeship with at least 5 years of experience in control and instrumentation maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in industrial control systems, including APC, DCS, PLC (experience with Siemens PCS7 is advantageous), and SCADA systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills, with a proactive and self-motivated approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A willingness to mentor apprentices and share knowledge.

This role operates on a day shift schedule (Monday to Friday) with flexibility required to meet business needs.
