Communication Engineer - Autonomous Defence Systems

A pioneering and rapidly expanding technology company specializing in cutting-edge autonomous systems for defence applications is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Communication Engineer (m/f/d) to join our dynamic team in the Munich area. You will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and optimization of critical radio and data link systems for our advanced unmanned platforms. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to technologies that directly enhance the capabilities of allied defence forces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Radio and Data Link System Design: Conceptualize and implement robust radio and data link systems for seamless communication and efficient data transfer.
  • Hands-on System Setup: Take a hands-on approach to setting up and configuring communication subsystems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Software and Ground Station Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency in software flashing procedures, ground station operation, and the effective integration of communication subsystems.
  • Performance Evaluation and Optimization: Design radio and data link systems with a focus on rigorous performance evaluation and continuous optimization.
  • Configuration Management: Maintain meticulous tracking of system changes and ensure effective configuration management practices.
  • Interface Management: Effectively manage both software and hardware interfaces within the communication systems.
  • Licence Management: Oversee and manage relevant communication licences, including MAN IA and MAN IC.
  • Firmware and GSS Operations: Flash firmware for radio and flight control software, and expertly configure, integrate, and operate Ground Support Stations (GSS).
  • Flight Test Support: Provide crucial support to the flight test team during integration and testing phases.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A solid background in radio communication, RF engineering, or HF engineering.
  • Proven experience with Linux (Ubuntu) operating systems and Python scripting.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills.
  • Solid electronic knowledge with hands-on experience in setting up communication hardware.
  • Practical experience with Ardupilot, PX4, or other similar autopilot software applications, along with their corresponding ground station applications.
  • Familiarity with the principles of secure communication and data link technologies relevant to defence applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication abilities.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance required for working within the defence sector.
