Contract Mechanical Building Services Engineer

12 Months (Initially)

£60-70 per hour (Inside IR35)

Remote working (2 days per month on-site in Plymouth)

iO Associates has partnered with a Defence client in the recruitment of Mechanical Building Services Engineer to work an initial 12-month contract.

For this role, the primary focus will be maintaining and controlling modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of the Building Engineering Services for the nuclear implicated and non-nuclear mechanical systems and acting as the custodian of reference design documentation. You will be responsible for supporting design activities from requirements capture, design development from concept through to detailed design, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal. You will be focussed on ensuring compliance with site Licence Conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards, producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses, and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.

The skillset required is:

  • Knowledge / experience in managing a small team of engineers.
  • Good level of computer literacy in a range of digital tools.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of Steam & Condensate, Industrial Gases, Fresh Water, Demineralised Water, HVAC, Domestic Water services etc.
  • Knowledge of the design lifecycle
  • Detailed knowledge of appropriate, regulations, legislation and technical standards that are applicable to mechanical services system design.
  • Knowledge of operating within nuclear or other high-hazard environments
  • Familiar with energy reduction methods and approaches to decarbonising new and existing buildings. Including principles of building physics such as passive design solutions.
  • Experience of commissioning and post installation evaluation of performance.
