Job Title: Senior or Principal Power Systems Engineer
Location: Manchester or St Helens
Contract Type: Permanent
Are you an experienced Power Systems Engineer with a solid grasp of UK Grid Code requirements and dynamic analysis techniques? Our client - a well-established consultancy in the power systems sector - is looking to bring a Senior or Principal Engineer on board to support their continued growth.
This is a great chance to get involved in technically complex, high-impact projects across the UK and internationally. Whether your background is in renewables, offshore wind, grid integration, or utility-scale systems, your skills in simulation and analysis will be key.
The Role
In this position, you'll take a lead in delivering a variety of technical studies, working alongside cross-functional teams and directly engaging with clients. Your knowledge of tools like DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD will be essential for dynamic modelling and system simulations. You'll be solving real challenges - not just running numbers.
What You'll Be Doing
Dynamic System Studies: Carry out voltage and frequency stability assessments in line with G99 standards.
Grid Compliance: Deliver comprehensive studies to demonstrate compliance with the UK Grid Code.
Transient Simulations: Model insulation coordination scenarios, lightning events, and switching transients.
Protection & Earthing Design: Oversee protection coordination and deliver technical earthing studies.
Project Leadership: Guide junior engineers, ensure quality deliverables, and keep projects on schedule.
Client Relationships: Maintain strong client interactions, contribute to proposals, and support business development activities.
What You'll Need
A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
At least two years' hands-on experience with UK Grid Code compliance work.
Proficiency in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD; experience with tools like PSS/E, ETAP, IPSA, or CDEGS is a bonus.
A proactive, collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider technical team.
Why Consider This Role?
Competitive salary, tailored to your level of experience
Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
24 days of holiday each year, plus bank holidays
Opportunities for professional development and career progression
Access to tailored training, mentoring, and support
If you're ready for a new challenge and want to work on impactful projects in a fast-moving sector, we'd love to hear from you. This is a great opportunity to make a real contribution to the future of energy systems.
