UAV Systems Engineer

As a UAV Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and their systems. This includes defining hardware (HW) architecture and creating detailed system and wiring diagrams to streamline integration and assembly. Collaborating across disciplines, you'll contribute to every stage of the UAV lifecycle, ensuring efficient and reliable system performance.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Development

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design UAV systems, including airframes, propulsion systems, avionics, and payloads.
  • Use CAD software to create detailed designs, specifications, and structural analyses.
  • Optimize UAV performance through aerodynamic modeling and system integration.

Hardware & Systems Architecture

  • Define hardware architecture for airframes, sensors, avionics, and communication systems.
  • Develop system-level designs for seamless component integration and interoperability.
  • Partner with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to establish design requirements.

System Diagrams and Assembly Support

  • Create accurate system and wiring diagrams to guide integration and troubleshooting.
  • Support assembly teams in integrating UAV components and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Develop comprehensive work instructions for assembly and testing processes.

Testing and Validation

  • Design test plans to validate UAV performance and functionality.
  • Conduct functional, integration, and environmental testing; provide recommendations for optimization.

Regulatory Compliance and Flight Approval

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements for UAV design and operation.
  • Prepare flight approval documentation and liaise with authorities for necessary clearances.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of designs, specifications, test plans, and results.
  • Prepare presentations and technical documents for stakeholders.
  • Assist technical writers with creating user manuals and technical guides.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; Master's preferred.
  • Proven experience in UAV systems engineering, particularly in HW and systems architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, electrical systems, and power distribution.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools like Siemens NX; experience creating system and wiring diagrams is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and past interaction with EASA is desirable.
  • Experience in real UAV flight testing, GCS operations, and external piloting is an asset.
  • Drone pilot licenses (civil and military segments) are advantageous.
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.
