We are seeking a Lead Platform Engineer who can help us on a long term contract/b2b assignment working for a large Energy Company.
Remote - * with 3 days onsite per month in Berlin
Rate - is open
Availability: to start in October, no later than November.
Lead Responsibilities:
As the Lead, you'll oversee the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to final delivery. Working closely with Product Management and the Architecture team, you'll:
- Define and design: Create detailed high-level and low-level designs for new products.
- Develop and deliver: Lead the engineering team to build working products that meet specifications.
- Ensure quality: Implement rigorous quality assurance processes throughout development.
- Manage workload: Utilize Scrum rituals and backlog grooming to prioritize tasks and optimize efficiency.
Infrastructure Product Delivery:
Our infrastructure product delivery is organized into two specialized teams:
- Infrastructure Core: Focuses on the foundational elements of our infrastructure, including datacenters, networks, compute, and storage.
- Infrastructure IaaS (ICE): Builds on the core infrastructure to deliver IaaS solutions, providing a robust platform for our applications.
Must have Experience:
Kubernetes Expertise:
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture and operations.
- Experience with both cloud-based and self-managed Kubernetes clusters.
- Proficiency in using Helm charts for managing Kubernetes applications.
Infrastructure Management:
- Ability to administer infrastructure components using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong knowledge of storage, networking, and security concepts.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
Observability:
- Proficiency in setting up monitoring and logging systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
- Familiarity with observability tools like Splunk or Datadog.
Quality Assurance:
- Commitment to delivering high-quality products through rigorous testing and quality practices.
- Experience with TDD or BDD methodologies.
Competencies:
- Engineering Excellence: An engineering background with an emphasis on designing and implementing long term secure solutions rather than quick fixes.
- CI/CD and Automation: Proficiency in integrating continuous testing practices within the CI/CD pipeline using tools like GitLab, Jenkins, Tekton, Argo Workflows, and ArgoCD.
- Scripting and Automation: Solid foundation in scripting and automation with a security-conscious approach, ensuring that security & reliability practices are integrated into automated processes.
- Robust Infrastructure: Proficiency in overseeing the reliability of infrastructure components like servers, networks, and cloud resources, with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure continuous deployments.
- Security Measures: Proficiency in securing the system using SSL/TLS encryption for data protection, experience with secret stores like Hashi Corp Vault, and an understanding of the zero-trust and the least privilege security concept.
- Effective Problem Solving: Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying and addressing issues, root cause analysis, and the implementation of sustainable solutions.
