Process Engineer (Hard Ballistics Manufacturing)

Fulda, Germany

€70,000 - €120,000

Our client, a leading and innovative company specializing in high-performance protection solutions based in Fulda, Germany, is seeking a proactive and experienced Process Engineer to join their manufacturing team. This is an exciting opportunity to drive efficiency and optimize production processes for their advanced hard ballistic materials.

In this role, the Process Engineer will be crucial in developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes for hard ballistic components, which involve pressing various materials under heat. The successful candidate will apply their engineering expertise to ensure consistent quality, optimize yields, and troubleshoot technical challenges within the production environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for hard ballistic materials, considering factors such as temperature control to prevent cracking during pressing.
  • Working with various backing materials and understanding their behavior under heat and pressure.
  • Analyzing and improving existing production processes, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and reduced waste.
  • Designing and implementing process parameters for different manufacturing methods, including normal pressure, hydro pressure (up to 4000 Tonnes), autoclave, and vacuum systems (similar to those used in carbon fiber processing).
  • Developing and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Troubleshooting process-related issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Collaborating closely with production teams, quality control, and R&D to ensure seamless integration of new processes and technologies.
  • Participating in the selection, installation, and validation of new production equipment.
  • Identifying and implementing solutions to improve process stability and reduce variability.
  • Working on non-standard production challenges, developing innovative solutions outside of classical tariff structures.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Process Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Process Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with materials processed under heat and pressure is essential.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as pressing, autoclaving, vacuum forming, or similar techniques.
  • Experience with materials commonly used in defense applications, polymer processing (PP or similar), or other industries where similar material processing challenges exist is highly advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of process optimization methodologies and data analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to implementation.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 1
  • Fluency in English is required; German language skills would be an advantage.

This is a unique opportunity to join a company at the forefront of protection technology and play a key role in optimizing their critical manufacturing processes. If you are a driven Process Engineer with a passion for materials and manufacturing innovation, we encourage you to apply.
