A leading European space company with over 40 years of experience and a strong presence in Bremen is seeking a talented System Performance Engineer (m/f/d) to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to pivotal European space programs, working on cutting-edge solutions for Earth observation, navigation, telecommunications, science, space exploration, human spaceflight, and aerial reconnaissance.

About the Role:

Within the Satellite Systems Engineering department, the System Performance team plays a vital role in ensuring the optimal performance of spacecraft, from initial study phases through in-orbit commissioning. Collaborating in an interdisciplinary environment, you will contribute to the overall system architecture of space missions, coordinate design and development activities related to system performance, and verify performance requirements through analyses and testing.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with architects and subsystem engineers on tasks such as:
    • Modeling satellite imaging geometry and analyzing geometric performance.
    • Engineering pointing performance, addressing factors like microvibration and thermo-elastic deformation.
    • Implementing performance calibration and developing associated software tools.
    • Conducting performance testing at various levels (satellite, platform, units), including test evaluation.
    • Developing algorithms for data processing and simulation, focusing on satellite-level aspects such as geometry.
    • Maintaining the Satellite Characterization and Calibration Database used for on-ground data processing.

Your Qualifications:

  • University degree in physics, aerospace engineering, remote sensing, or a related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
    • Satellite design, particularly optical and/or radar missions.
    • Design and simulation of control systems, multibody systems, mechanisms, or similar.
    • Geometric performance of Earth observation space missions.
    • End-to-end simulation of Earth observation and/or science data.
  • Proficiency in programming (MATLAB, Python).
  • Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and proactive work style.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and German language skills. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to work on defense and surveillance projects.
